That Teaser I promised...

Ryann Kerekes of Novel Addiction tagged me as one of her lucky 7... which means I have more than enough reason to share a snippet of my work with you (from page 77 to be exact).

The rules! (AKA: where the formatting of the post goes down the winding road of insanity. Dang copy/paste and Google/Microsoft Word battling it out on my page)

The Rules: 1. Go to page 77 of your current MS/WIP
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next 7 lines - sentences or paragraphs - and post them as they're written. No cheating
4. Tag 7 authors
5. Let them know

Now, without further ado, I present page 77 of my current masterpiece. The fun thing about this is is I just read over it and found at least 3 things that are going to be changed. My pride is... less proud. But I'm not allowed to cheat so I shall not.

Here's a lesson for myself: write every page like you are going to post it on Blogger.

When his mother opened the door I lifted up a package I had in my arms.

“Hello. I’m here to drop this off for Derek.” I nodded to the cleverly disguised box of donuts in a canvas bag.

“Oh.” She sounded doubtful. Maybe this sort of bag was big for drug deliveries. Or maybe murders. Something other than donuts, from the way she looked at it. “You can go on down. He’ll be home soon.”

“Okay. Thanks.” I nearly tripped walking in. Damn nervous jittery walk.

I noticed that she hung around the door, watching me take the stairs down to Derek’s lair. Maybe I should have just kept the donuts as they were, and cut down on the secrecy. But if his mother didn’t like me, no doubt he’d hear about it, and that could work to my advantage.

In his large room, I took a deep breath. Calm down. You aren’t going to burn the place down or anything. I took the box of donuts out of the bag and put them on his bed, leaning them against his pillow so smudges of glaze stuck to the box rubbed onto the pillow case. Then I opened it and took a donut out and ate it, wiping my fingers on his comforter. A little glaze dribbled on his computer keyboards… all four of them… before I settled down in front of his TV and pushed all the buttons. It responded with a screen of static.

Next I took to his computer. I opened all his favorites, one of them an article about the hottest actresses in Hollywood, and left them open. I took some papers from the printer – they looked like a paper for history – and wrote a note on them in marker. Saw these and though you’d like them, I jotted down. I left the note on the donut box and left. Enough damage done.

Now I'm supposed to tag 7 friends of my own. Basically I'm boiling it down to "if you see this and haven't done it yet, do it" because so many of my writing buddies have done it already! But if you are a new buddy yet to be discovered, do a Lucky 7 post of your own and leave a link in the comments or on my twitter so I can find it!

Love and hugs,
